Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation established by Bill Gates and Melinda (the Microsoft founder) was the primary recipient. This foundation focused on global health and education. Bill and Buffett had been friends since the 90s. Other charities that received donations included those that Buffett's three children and the Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation, named for his late wife. It concentrated on women's reproductive rights and funded college scholarship programs. In the year 2010, Buffett together with Gates created the Giving Pledge. This pledge allowed other wealthy individuals to give a large portion of their fortunes to charitable organizations.
